What correct output looks like

show vlan brief lists Gi0/1 under VLAN 10; switchport shows Administrative Mode: static access and Access Mode VLAN: 10.

Why is it not working? Common mistakes

•Forgot switchport mode access — the port stays dynamic auto and behaves unpredictably.
•The VLAN was never created: the port shows as inactive in a non-existent VLAN.
