3210System — Netlogon (client)Replication & DCsCRITLast updated:

Failed to authenticate to the domain (Netlogon)

What it means

The workstation cannot authenticate to the DC. The familiar wording: "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed".

First steps

  1. 1Check the host can find a DC: nltest /dsgetdc:domain.local.
  2. 2Repair the secure channel: Test-ComputerSecureChannel -Repair -Credential (Get-Credential).
  3. 3Do not rejoin the domain first — it loses the object's SID; keep it as a last resort.
